He who has brought his mind and senses under control, is an earnest disciple. Service of the Lotus Feet of the Guru, Guru-padaseva, is the all-absorbing occupation of such a disciple. What is meant by the service of the Guru’s Lotus Feet? To massage the feet of the Guru and to render all other forms of personal service to the Guru’s body: this is not what is implied by the term, Gurupada Seva. |

The devotional householders, observing traditional norms, worship the Divine in their home-shrines; some worship their Kula gurus: some look upon their parents as their Gurus. But the real Guru should be a Brahman-Knower. The Guru-shishya bond is profoundly sacred. It is spiritual in its essential form, and is hallowed by the radiance of subtle moral truths. In the Yogavasishta has expounded many a deep truth concerning this, during his discourse to his disciple, Sree Ramachandra. |

Think not that God is elated by praises, honour and worship offered to Him by human mortals. He is established always in His own unique glory. But man is not like God. He desires honour, name, fame, power and position. If these were denied to him, he gets depressed. |

There are duties to discharge and dharma to follow. Unless one is devoted to this dharmacharana (virtuous conduct), one cannot live in the body in peace and one cannot leave the body in peace. The Grandsire Bhishma was a great soul. He was a man endowed with power to leave the body at will. Yet he had to lie on the bed of arrows, waiting for Uttarayana. Everyone is accountable in this world of Karma. When virtuous Droupati was insulted in the open court of Duriodhana, the Pitamaha Bhishma, instead of tendering right advice to Duriodhana, kept silent, remaining a mute witness to heinous act. |

Firm, unshakable and supreme love for Paramatman, arising from the knowledge of His greatness and glory, is what is called as Bhakti. Being an efflorescence of knowledge, it is also called jnanothara Bhakti. |

To cultivate love for God is the most effective way of overcoming the sense lure. The flies sit on all objects indiscriminately, good or bad, pure or impure. But there is one object they cannot sit on, and that is fire. The mind purified by devotion and constant God-contemplation, is a blazing fire. The flies of worldly cravings (vishaya-vasanas) dare not approach this fire. of pure mind. What will happen if they ever sit on this fire? They will be reduced to ashes. Vasanas will be destroyed in the blazing fire of Jnana. |

In the analogy of milk and ghee, chittha
is the milk. Intense aspiration for
God-realization is the fire with which
it should be boiled. Guruvakya, the
sacred word initiated by the sadguru, is
the fermenting substance that should be
put into the milk of chittha. The mind
should be concentrated on, and devoted
to the Word of the Guru, the Name of God
imparted by the Guru, His Teaching, the
path prescribed by him and the goal
indicated by him. |

By daily practice of spiritual disciplines, Sadhana, the spiritual power that is dormant in oneself, should be awakened. For this awakening of spirituality, the support of the Sadguru, in the form of initiation, inspiration, guidance and grace, is required. |

Children, Divine Mother has not entered into Maha Samadhi. She is ever with you. Seated in Dharma Peetam, She is still the Living Force here. It is love for the children that keeps Her amongst Her children. In all incarnations, the annihilation of asuras was a part of the divine work. In this avatara, there is only the annihilation of the evil tendencies, the evil forces, lurking in the human bosoms, with the sword of Knowledge. |

How many houses you built how much wealth you amassed, how many things you possessed, life after life! But think for a while, will any of these things come with you as you depart from this world. Will your kith and kin accompany you beyond the grave? Will your own body which you tend so lovingly, be with you forever? Lakhs and lakhs of people have departed from this world right before your eyes. Think of these. Children, never pin your faith on the unreal. God alone is real. Cling to Him only. |

Until you reach God, there are chances of fall and failure. Even the intelligence of a genius sometimes gets clouded. Guru’s grace alone is the guarantee against all pitfalls on the path. Wear the armour of Guru’s grace and tread the path of dharma and discipline, and such a stupendous spiritual power will awake in you that you can conquer the whole world with it. |

Guru and the Shishya are not two. He who violates the Guru’s injunctions cannot find peace anywhere, here or hereafter. Even though God may take the role of a disciple, He is ever the Jagadguru. Then why should God take the role of a disciple, after all? To show to the world the ideal of true discipleship; the nature of pure conduct and the radiance of moral purity. The glory of the Guru is indescribable. |

By devotion to God and constant remembrance of His presence, one can tread quickly the path of yoga as well as jnana. Of course, the fruition comes through Guru’s grace only. Think not that by simply living with the Guru, or by gazing at his form, one can get his grace. To get grace, you must work hard, do self-correcting introspection, observe dharma and practice mind disciplining sadhana and thus achieve the quiescence of chittha. |

Draw yourselves closer to God through prayer. Pray in solitude. Through prayer, discover solitude within. Remember with gratefulness the instances of how God came to your help in your daily battle of life. God is the protecting power. You can invoke the power through prayer. Let prayer be a call to the Supreme from the depth of your being, an outpouring of heart in an intensely personal approach to Divinity. For stilling the ripples of chittha, for the growth of devotion and even for cultivation of knowledge, prayer is a must. |

Whether one functions in the world of secular duties (prapancha) or is exclusively engrossed in the pursuit of Reality (paramartha), one has to follow the ethical norms and the disciplines of higher life. Prapancha begins for the jiva the moment he comes to the embodied state. Embodiment implies activity. Activity brings in the dichotomy of dharma and adharma, right and wrong. This again, calls for discrimination and right choice on the part of the doer. |

The supreme value, paramartha, is moksha, salvation from samsara. The sadhaka devoted to the pursuit of supreme value, raises high in self-purification, in mental serenity, in concentration. Eventually he attains supreme peace by experience of Brahman. The spiritual progress of a Sadhaka depends on the intensity of his yearning, the depth of his devotion, and the highest measure of surrender to Sadguru. |

Spirituality is not an easy-going life of pleasure-seeking. It is a life of supreme value, a profound vision and a divine way. Great truths of higher life found expression in Mother’s day to day life. Many are there who consider themselves as spiritual aspirants, without understanding the subtle principles of spiritual life. Many are there who actually strive for spiritual progress, but alas, the ego and the lure of the world, never leave them. Unless the veil of the subtle ego is lifted, unless one rises above the lure of the sense pleasures, unless the mind itself merges in the Paramatman, no one can attain the realization of God. |

This is not a discourse; this is the roar of Devi. To vanquish the whole race of asuras dwelling in your chittha, the eight-armed Goddess, the Mother of the Universe, descended into this world. To check the outgoing tendency of the mind does not mean withdrawal from all activity. The sadhaka should be able to function in the sphere of duty, with his mind tuned to God. The inner abundance of spirituality is the cumulative effect of Japa and Tapas and the reward of meritorious acts of the numberless lives in the past. |

Meditation, dhyana, is the last gate that opens to the knowledge of Brahman. This spiritual height of meditation is reached as a result of preparation and penance of several years. This preparation and penance, otherwise called Tapas, consists mainly in a systematic endeavour for subjugating the sense organs, withdrawing the mind from the sense world and restraining it from slipping back to the world, and for turning the mind inward with a view to attaining merger in the indwelling Self, the Atman. |
